Why did my bowl break? What’s this scum on the surface? How should I fire this? Fusing is simple in concept but the complexities of working with glass can seem endless. The Glasshoppa is available to Patrons who want help troubleshooting a project gone wrong, or who have questions about pretty much anything art-glass related. I don't know it all and won't pretend to, but promise to make a solid effort to help out, gratis. Send pictures and your firing schedule!

Nothing in glass craft is quite as intimidating as the firing process. It’s not just you! We all know that a few hours in the kiln will make or break all our efforts up to that point. Following the recommended firing schedule is great, but understanding that schedule and what is happening during the process will make you a master of your own results. Here is a simple explanation from a simple mind … no physics degree required.
The Glasshoppa Blog
Most Glasshoppa video projects are accompanied by a blog post, where I try to include any important information that may have been left out of the video, and anything else that seems important. This is where you will find resources like which mold was used and where you can find it, or, critically, what I suggest you consider doing differently than I did in the final, filmed project.

The posts for public videos are on the Glasshoppa Blog and links are located near the video windows here on Glasshoppa.com. For Patrons, blog posts are adjacent to the video windows on the Patreon web page. Make sure you read the blog post before starting the project.

The Glasshoppa Glossary
Here is an attempt to catalog and define the many esoteric words and phrases in our kiln-crafting vernacular. These are the ones that make newcomers squint and old timers seem like glass gods. Look them over, make them your friends. Throw them around in mixed company and let me know if you find any obvious omissions or blatant blunders
As will happen, Glasshoppa viewers pose a handful of favorite questions about the tools, materials and methods they see me using. On this page those questions are addressed. What is that red thing you sometimes use to run your scores? Where can I get a freakishly malformed frit spoon like yours? What’s with the Aloe Vera gel? You get the idea …
